There are too many people on line and in social networking sites. The tendency is to head for the biggest party, but the biggest party is also the most challenging place for conversation that leads to more understanding and more fruitful interactions. It is daunting and time consuming, but the best way to find people is through the forums and groups.

1. Immune to the fluctuations in weather, the San Diego rockfish bite is staying in the top picks for yet another week. The local landings continue to run trips into Mexican waters for rockfish on overnight, 1 1/2 day, and even two day trips. The rockfish have been averaging from five to seven pounds with lings to nearly 25 pounds on these jaunts. There is limit style fishing on many of these trips targeting the rockfish off Colonet. If you want to go, check with one of the landings to see what trips are running. Call Fisherman TMs Landing at 619 221 8500, H Landing at 619 222 1144, Seaforth Landing at 619 224 3383, or Point Loma Sportfishing at 619 223 1627.

2. The striped bass bite in the California aqueduct near Taft has been excellent for two weeks now, with 15 to 20 fish days pretty common. There are still a lot of dinks in the catch, nike shox dublin but there are more and more quality fish showing. There were several fish from eight to 10 pounds reported this past week. Anglers are mostly fly lining either sardines chunks or lug worms, but anchovies and blood worms are also working pretty well. For an update on this bite, call Bob TMs Bait at 661 833 8657.

3. The crappie action at Lower Otay remains one of the best panfish bites in the region and the action was improving this week after a lull last week during the weather fronts. There is also a good bass and growing bluegill bite here, so you have options. Most of the crappie are around a pound and the best bite remains on small shiners or small jigs fished around structure. For an update on this great winter bite, check with the rental boat and concession staff at 619 397 5212.

TROUT: The urban trout fishing program is at its peak, with weekly plants at the best waters. Those include Santa Ana River Lakes, Corona Lake, Irvine Lake, and Laguna Niguel Lake. In the High Desert, Jess Ranch, Hesperia Lake, and Mojave Narrows are all pretty good. Four of the five San Bernardino County Park Lakes Mojave Narrows, Glen Helen, Cucamonga Guasti, and Yucaipa are very good with only Prado a step behind. All are getting weekly county plants and DFW fish alternating weeks. In San Diego County, almost all the lakes are now getting trout plants, but Jennings continues to be a top spot with trophy fish in each week TMs plant this year.

BLACK BASS: The warm weather has again pushed a lot of fish back into shallower water in a major movement of fish before the spawn. Notable bites include El Capitan and Lower Otay Reservoir. While most fish remain on deeper structure or suspended, there are more and more fish showing in less than 10 feet of water.  There also continue to be quite a few big bass up chasing trout after DFW plants. On the Colorado River, the bite is pretty tough, but there is still fair action on river smallmouth in the lower river.

STRIPED BASS: The winter striper action is fair with flurries of good action most places. The aqueduct at Taft is the top pick for volume and better quality fish to over 10 pounds this week, nike shox dublin but Lake Skinner remains good, especially on dipped live shad. Diamond Valley, Silverwood, and Pyramid are also pretty decent on small swimbaits or cut baits for smaller fish and bigger trout swimbaits for the odd bigger fish. All three have cranked out 20 pound class fish in the past three weeks. Havasu and the Willow Beach stretch of the Colorado River are both getting very little pressure and the bite is pretty tough.

PANFISH: The redear and/or bluegill bites have been fair with some good action this week. The Lake Perris bite is one of the best for redear on red worms. The Lower Otay crappie bite is also still pretty good with fish around a pound in pretty decent numbers. Lake Isabella continues to produce decent numbers of crappie but the action is restricted to one area. Few other bites of note.

CATFISH: Everything slowed this week. The best bites are at Lake Skinner in Riverside County and Lake Isabella in Kern County. Diamond Valley and Silverwood are spotty bets. The Colorado River has also continued to slow way down. Santa Ana River Lakes just restarted stocking blue catfish each Wednesday, but it hasn TMt resulted in a wide open bite, yet.

SILVERWOOD: The striper bite is the best bet here with fair to good action on fish running from two to four pounds along with some bigger fish. The best action has been in Miller Canyon and off the docks with swimbaits, anchovies, and sardines. The best fish this week was a 13 pounder caught by Richard Pustilinskov, Rancho Cucamonga, on a swim bait in the channel. Ernie, Joe, and Lyn Carlson, all Azusa, hand nine stripers to three pounds fishing anchovies off the dock. Jesse Dominguez, Whittier, had five stripers to three pounds, also fishing anchovies off the dock. The trout bite has been fair to good after a DFW plant last week and three weeks ago. The bite has been best around the marina and into Miller and Cleghorn canyons. Catfish are fair with most showing for striper anglers or those targeting the cats marina and cove mouths on shrimp and chicken liver. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week. Information: marina 760 389 2299, state park 760 389 2281, Silverwood Country store 760 389 2423.

BIG BEAR LAKE: Very little fishing pressure. The trout bite remains slow to fair. Best bite in the east end of the lake on PowerBait and small lures. The mouth of Metcalf Bay to Windy Point over to Lagonita are the top spots now. The marinas and public boat launches are all closed. For more information: Big Bear Sporting Goods 909 866 3222.

GREGORY LAKE: No reports. DFW recent DFW trout plants.  Lake and fishing information at 909 338 2233.

GREEN VALLEY LAKE: No more plants are scheduled until next year. The lake facilities will reopen the third Friday in May.

ARROWBEAR LAKE: No recent DFW plants.

JENKS LAKE REGION: No report. Facilities are now closed. The Santa Ana River and the South Fork have not been planted recently. General Information: Mill Creek Ranger Station at 909 382 2881.

LYTLE CREEK: No recent DFW trout plants.

HESPERIA LAKE: Trout action remains good with plants Tuesday this week and Wednesday next week. The best action has been on PowerBaits, nightcrawlers, and small trout free run ireland   Big fish of the week was a 10.2 pound rainbow caught by Sang Nguyen, San Bernardino, on rainbow PowerBait. Alex Duran, Rosemead, landed an 8.4 pounder, while Tom Rodriguez, Victorville, had an eight pounder. Seven pound rainbows were reported by Steve Holland, Santa Clarita, and Marcos Alcantar, San Bernardino. Ruben Rodrigues, Victorville, had a five fish limit that weighed in at 16.8 pounds total. Information: 800 521 6332 or 760 244 5951.

JESS RANCH: Good trout action on PowerBait in garlic, rainbow, orange and salmon peach, nightcrawlers, and small trout jigs and lures. Top trout reported was a 5 2 rainbow landed by Jerry Young, Apple Valley, on rainbow and garlic PowerBaits mixed together. Mark Logan, Rancho Cucamonga, had a 4 3 rainbo, while Kim Paulson, Yorba Linda, landed a 3 6 trout.

MOJAVE NARROWS: Good trout action. The best bite has continued to be on garlic scented nightcrawlers and floating baits. County trout plants are Thursday each week and the DFW also added trout last week and is slated to plant next week. Top rainbow was a seven pounder caught by Brad West, Hesperia, nike free run ireland   on sherbert PowerBait from Horseshoe Lake. Eric Espinoza, Colton, landed three trout and his best was a three pounder. The fourth derby in the San Bernardino County Park five derby circuit will be held here Mar. 22. Entry fee for all events is $20 plus vehicle entry fee. There is over $1,000 in cash and prizes for top anglers. For lake information: 760 245 2226.

CUCAMONGA GUASTI: The trout action has been fair to good this past week with few limits but a lot of one to three fish stringers. The best trout of the week was a four pounder landed by Mark Cadena, nike free run ireland Monterey Park, on a white jig. Armando Ramirez, Rancho Cucamonga, have a limit of rainbow averaging a pound on rainbow PowerBait on the north side of the big lake. County plants are each week on Thursday, and DFW rainbows went in last week and are slated for next week. A Junior Fishing Workshop has been slated for Feb. 22. Information: 909 481 4205.

Diane Vaughan is an American sociologist who devoted most of her time on topics as different as “Tension in private life” and “Deviance in organizations”. [1] She states, “I find that in common, routine nonconformity, mistake, misconduct, and disaster are systematically produced by the interconnection between environment, organizations, cognition, and choice. in Sociology, Ohio State University, 1979, and taught at Boston College from 1984 to 2005. During this time, she was awarded fellowships at Yale (1979 82), Centre for Socio Legal Studies, Oxford (1986 87), The American Bar Foundation (1988 1989), The Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (1996 1997), and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2003 04). She came to Columbia in 2005” [3]. People grow more accustom to the deviant behavior the more it occurs [6] . To people outside of the organization, the activities seem deviant; however, people within the organization do not recognize the deviance because it is seem as a normal occurrence. In hindsight, people within the organization realize that their seemingly normal behavior was deviant.

The Challenger Launch Decision[edit]

Diane Vaughan developed her theory of the normalization of deviance in The Challenger Launch Decision. She details how, during the developmental phase of the Space Shuttle Program, the normalization of deviance resulted in a dangerous design flaw in the design of the spacecraft. nike huarache ireland The group that was assessing the joints on the solid rocket boosters conducted analysis to find the “limits and capabilities of joint performance. Each time, evidence initially interpreted as a deviation from expected performance was reinterpreted as within the bounds of acceptable risk”[7]. The acceptance of this risk led to the Challenger exploding on the morning of January 28, 1986.

Morton Thiokol was contracted by NASA to manufacture the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) that were used in the Space Shuttle Program. In 1981, a problem with the putty that was used to seal the O rings on the SRBs was discovered. When the putty was added to the boosters, bubbles huarache ireland  During take off, the gases from inside of the SRB would go through the bubbles resulting in a “localized high temperature jet which was drilling a hole right into the O ring”[8]. Morton Thiokol changed the putty and the method of putty application and considered it fixed. The engineers knew that the putty erosion could still occur, but with a very low probability of a catastrophic disaster. NASA determined that the erosion of the putty was an acceptable risk of flight. NASA and Morton Thiokol characterized the erosion as an anomaly that was to be expected since the SRBs were such a new technology. Subsequent test flights showed putty erosion that was deemed acceptable by NASA and Morton Thiokol even though the joint actually “deviated from expected performance”[9].

NASA and Morton Thiokol suffered from the normalization of deviance when assessing the safety of the SRBs. Diane Vaughan states, “As [NASA and Morton Thiokol] recurrently observed the problem with no consequence they got to the point that flying with the flaw was normal and acceptable”[10]. history occurred. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston let two thieves posing as police officers into the building at 1:24 AM which resulted paintings and other works of art, including three Rembrandts and a Vermeer being stolen. The value of the haul was estimated at between $300 and $500 million. As of this writing, none of the art has been recovered [11]. The guard sitting at the security control desk was a then 23 year old Berklee College of Music student. In an interview, he called the job “the most boring in the world” and admitted that he frequently arrived at work stoned on marijuana, although not on the morning in question [12]. The guard at the desk said ” he decided to let them in because he felt compelled to obey a police officer’s demand”. The problem was he was breaking two major rules (1) Never allow anyone into the Gardner after hours who hadn’t been summoned by museum staff, and (2) never leave the security desk unattended [13]. Leadership at the Gardner was well aware of this appalling security weakness because a formal recommendation to move the entire security system into a control room accessible only to those with pass keys was submitted to the museum director the year before [14].

This is example of normalize deviance, when protocol or rule violations that allow errors or other kinds of “toxins,” like thieves, to exploit the system is confirmed time and again. System operators become careless and lackadaisical from nonevents; The guards were not trained or are inexperienced;  they claimed not even knowing what to do if police showed up unannounced, although the rule about refusing entry into the museum was clearly stated in the security manual [15]. This demonstrates that professionals who perform rule bound tasks, especially associated with complex and risky interventions whose failures can invite serious harm and injury, must appreciate the perils of deviating from standards of care. The more such deviations are allowed, the more normalized they become [16]. This shows that that deviant practices in the form of violations of rules and practice standards are arch contributors to the theft.

The Crash of the Costa Concordia[edit]

The cruise ship Costa Concordia crashed off the coast of Italy on January 13, 2012. This disaster killed thirty two of the 4,252 passengers on board [17]. The sinking can be attributed to negligence of the Captain and crew. Their actions were all because of the normalization of deviance in the cruise business.  Captain Francesco Schettino first decided to go on an unapproved course because it was a tradition for cruise ships to pass the particular island closely [18]. Passing closely created a spectacle for the people on the shore. This behavior was the norm, but each captain was deviating from their approved path. The captain also made another mistake after he hit the reef because he didn’t call for an abandon ship until later than necessary [19]. The evacuation should have taken no more than an hour but became panicked after the ship ran aground. The hectic evacuation made for many mistakes by captain and crew. The captain even left the ship before all the passengers and crew were evacuated. Because of the culture of negligence on the ship, the disaster became much larger than it may have been otherwise.

Normalization of Deviance in Health Care[edit]

Normalize deviance have been a major problem in health care. nike huarache ireland  For example there are problem such as failing to check or record a lab finding, ordering the wrong drug, or entering a lab finding in the wrong patient’s chart are usually not enough to guarantee an occurrence of harm.

An example of this is when a third year medical student stated “I was observing what turned into a very difficult surgery. About 2 hours into it and after experiencing a series of frustrations, the surgeon inadvertently touched the tip of the instrument he was using to his plastic face mask. Instead of his requesting or being offered a sterile replacement, he just froze for a few seconds while everyone else in the operating room stared at him. The surgeon then continued operating. Five minutes later he did it again and still no one did anything. nike blazers ireland I was very puzzled, but when I asked one of the nurses about it after the operation, she said, “Oh, no big deal. We’ll just load the patient with antibiotics and he’ll do fine.” And, in fact, that is what happened; the patient recovered nicely” [20].

We can use health as an example of reason why deviance is normalized in companies. Here are four major reasons why it happens:

“The rules are stupid and inefficient.”  System operators will often invent shortcuts or workarounds when the rule, regulation, or standard seems irrational or inefficient.

Knowledge is imperfect and uneven. nike blazers ireland System operators might not know that a particular rule or standard exists; or, they might have been taught a system deviation without realizing it.

Nike Air Force 1 Essential Low
Nike Air Force 1 Essential Low

“I’m breaking the rule for the good of my patient!” This justification for rule deviation is where the rule or standard is perceived as counterproductive.

Workers are afraid to speak up The likelihood that rule violations will become normalized obviously increases if persons who witness them refuse to intervene. Yet, a 2005 study of more than 1,700 healthcare professionals found that “it was between difficult and impossible to confront people”.[21]Ignorance across the organization is the problem, and hence education is the best solution for the normalization of deviance. Diane Vaughn states “the ignorance of what is going on is organizational and prevents any attempt to stop the unfolding harm.” [22] Being clear about standards and rewarding whistle blowers is part of the education that should take place. A company must be transparent about their standards and consequences of not meeting them. Also, creating a culture that is less individualistic and more team based is helpful to stop the normalization of deviance. Each person should be looking out for the company and team as a whole. If it were more team based, each person would feel like they were letting their colleagues down if they were to break the rules. A top down approach is very important. nike blazers ireland If the employees see executives breaking rules, they will feel it is normal in the company’s culture. Normalization of deviance is easier to prevent than to correct. Companies must make sure they take the correct steps to prevent it.

Gigabyte 990FXA UD7 Motherboard ReviewEvery once in awhile you come across a motherboard that raises the bar on what an enthusiast board should be. It sets the standard for features and performance exceeding all your expectations. This type of board forces every board you see from that point to meet a higher standard in order to impress you. nike air force ireland The Gigabyte 990FXA UD7 is not one of those boards. The CPU was cooled using a home brew water cooling setup consisting of a Swiftech MCR320 triple radiator, 3x120mm fans, Swiftech MCP655 B pump, and a Koolance CPU 350 AT water block with socket AM3 / AM3+ mounting hardware.

We normally don really conduct SLI or Crossfire functionality testing on most motherboards anymore due to the fact that these technologies are very mature at this point and we not seen problems with either of them which could be classified as relevant to a motherboard review. However given the fact that SLI hasn been allowed or licensed to AMD branded chipsets before, we felt that we should at least verify that SLI was indeed working. Going forward this shouldn be necessary, but again we felt the need to confirm SLI functionality on the 990FXA UD7.

I like to say that I was able to get SLI working on the 990FXA UD7 without issues but that wouldn be the truth. It wasn too difficult but after installing the second graphics card, I booted the system and once inside Windows I was prompted to restart after the driver for the card was loaded. After rebooting SLI wasn an available option. I went into the device manager and it showed the second graphics card to be a standard VGA adapter which wasn working. I manually installed the GTX 480 driver which worked. SLI still wasn an option until after I rebooted. The system hung on the reboot but after power cycling it and getting into Windows, I had no more trouble with SLI.

The first image shows the Street Fighter Benchmark run without SLI enabled with variable frame rates and V sync turned off. The middle screenshot shows the benchmark running with the SLI indicators turned on indicating graphics card load balancing. nike air force ireland The final image is the difference in score. Keep in mind that at 1680×1050, the max resolution of my bench monitor, that a pair of GTX 480 in SLI are total overkill for this game. Again the point was to test and show that SLI is indeed working on the 990FX chipset.

The onboard audio MIC IN port was tested using a Logitech Internet Chat Headset. Spoken words were recorded from the Windows Sound Recorder found under the Accessories\Entertainment folder in the start menu within Windows XP. The recording was made with the Microphone Boost option disabled, nike air huarache ireland then enabled. The Microphone Boost option is found within the advanced menu under the microphone section with in the Volume Control Menu.

The recording sample was inaudible with the microphone boost option disabled. It was audible when enabled, but the distortion was extremely pronounced. In fact unusually so even for this type of sound solution. And actually that not too surprising. The Realtek CODECs are pretty lousy when it comes to recording.

To test the capabilities of the on board USB 2.0 connections, we used an ACOMDATA HD060U2FE 72 USB 2.0/FireWire HDD connected first to the USB port. USB 3.0 functionality was tested using a Super Talent USB 3.0 SuperCrypt 32GB Flash Drive. SATA drive tests were performed using Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX hard drives on all SATA headers. The SATA drives were used for testing in RAID 0 16k block size configurations on all applicable controllers. Testing was also conducted using the same model SATA drives in a stand alone SATA configuration on all applicable controllers. All drive benchmarks were done using the freely available CrystalDiskMark 3.0 program, run with both 50MB and 100MB sized test sets.

The SB950 south bridge is a nice solution on paper. It boasts 6 full SATA 6G ports as opposed to Intel 2 SATA 6G ports and 4 SATA 3G ports. Additionally it offers the ability to separately configure the mode of ports 4 and 5, where as the Intel controllers do not. The mode is set for the whole controller. Unfortunately the AMD south bridge lacks the ability to handle stripe sizes below 64k in most instances. This particular instance allowed for a 256K stripe size which is unusual. The Intel controllers allow for far more versatility in stripe sizes. Unfortunately AMD has often struggled with the performance of their south bridges for some time. Especially when it comes to USB performance. However USB performance in the SB850 / SB950 is pretty comparable to other offerings at this point. Their SATA performance is still not quite where it needs to be though.

The sequential 50MB read tests show results below that of the Marvell 9172 controller. Normally you expect the Marvell controller to come in last, but again AMD has always struggled with south bridge performance. However USB and IEEE1394 performance is right where it should be. USB 3.0 performance is also air huarache ireland  I hadn ever seen the Etron EJ168 controller prior to the working with the 990FXA UD7, and luckily it didn give me any problems while performing well. The 50MB write tests showed nearly perfect symmetry between the SB950 and the Marvell 9172 controller. IEEE1394 performance fell a bit below expectations here, but remains consistent with other implementations of the VIA controller. USB 2.0 and 3.0 performance remained excellent.

In the 100MB tests, the sequential read data showed a fair gap between the Marvell 9172 and the SB950 in standalone mode in favor of the Marvell controller. This is of course not what we want to see. Things changed slightly in RAID0 testing as the SB950 picked up a slight gain in performance over the Marvell controller. Unfortunately as usual the SB950 and Marvell 9172 trail behind Intel controllers. Though again USB 2.0, 3.0 and IEEE1394 performance was solid. The 100MB sequential write tests showed better results more in line with the competition and what we prefer to see. The SB950 and Marvell 9172 were very close in standalone mode favoring the SB950 slightly. In RAID 0 testing the Marvell 9172 fell way behind the SB950 controller. IEEE1394 performance was again somewhat disappointing but not out of line. USB 2.0 and 3.0 performance was exactly where it should be.

This data was not easy to collect. Actually it was more time consuming than usual to collect than anything. Specifically there were problems with the Marvell 9172 controller. I was unable to create a RAID array on the eSATA ports or enter the option ROM for the internal ports (both are 9172 controllers with separate integrated adapter configurations) while the SB950 was in RAID mode. If I took the SB950 out of RAID mode and booted from a single AHCI volume on ports 4 or 5 I was OK and the Marvell controller behaved correctly. nike air force ireland Normally I use a RAID array for the C:\ drive as it allows me the ability to do AHCI testing and RAID testing without changing the controller mode. Changing the controller mode to something other than what you setup the OS on can cause BSOD and other issues. In this case I had to have two separate hard drive configurations both with their own OS installation on them. So it was literally almost double the work to setup the testing rig.

Gigabyte has been made aware of the problem.  It is unknown when they resolve this problem, or whether or not they even be able to duplicate it. This was with BIOS F3, so going forward I look for newer BIOS revisions if you plan on using the Marvell 9172 RAID features in conjunction with the SB950. I advise making sure this is resolved before purchasing this board.

Hagel Technologies DU Meter software was used with Windows Task Manager to determine the performance levels of the onboard network interface. DU Meter was used to measure bandwidth and transfer speeds, while Windows Task Manager monitored CPU utilization on the test system. For the testing, a 750MB Archive file consisting of several compressed WMA/MP3 files was used for the large file transfer, and 750MB worth of MP3/WMA files were used ranging in sizes from 3 to 30MB was used for the small files transfer test. The test was performed using a plenum rated category 5e crossover cable to bypass any traffic, routing or other transfer issues and possible packet loss or corruption that can be caused by a router/switch or hub. The cables were connected between two test machines, one using the onboard NIC(s) of the board being reviewed and the other is an Intel EXPI9400PT 10/100/1000Mbps PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet adapter installed into a test machine using an Intel D5400XS motherboard.

The Gigabyte 990FXA UD7 features the Realtek 8111E PCI Express network adapter. It is capable of 10/100/1000Mbps speeds. This is the same controller the MSI 990FXA GD80 used and while not as bad, it still gave me some performance issues. Most notably in the small files download test.

Nike Shoes For Women 2015 White

The large files download test was a little better than the small files test. The average transfer rate was 40.4MB/s and maxed out at 65.3MB/s. CPU usage was again a modest 3%. Finally in the large files upload test we actually saw excellent performance. The average transfer rate came in at 104MB/s with a peak of 115MB/s. CPU usage climbed slightly to 4%. This test was much more in line with what we should see from this controller.

Still the controller performance is inconsistent and could indicate issues which need resolution. nike air huarache ireland While not as bad as what I saw in the MSI 990FXA GD80 article, the Gigabyte 990FXA UD7 network controller could definitely use improvement.

Three months into 2014 we have seen a slight pullback and another leg higher in equities, so far. Economic reports initially showed some weakness from the fourth quarter of 2013, as seen with a weak housing figures, manufacturing, and revised GDP lower. Additionally, nike tns ireland Russia’s military deployment to Ukraine has also caused investors to question risky assets and the current valuation of the market. Despite these facts, the S 500 still managed to log in a new high recently and continues its bull run. The bullish run higher has caused volatility to pullback from its year to date high of 21.44 to its current 14.16. However, I do expect a bump in volatility over the next several months.

While we are certainly in an aged bull market, it is time for investors to begin the gradual switch to more stable, high quality stocks. nike tns ireland One such industry that is seeing long term growth is the medical device field. According to a report done by ResearchandMarkets, the market for medical devices will grow to $65.6 billion by next year. Additionally, the report highlighted that North America currently accounts for 40% of medical devices, followed by Europe at 30% and Asia at 11.6%. With an overwhelming demand for upgraded health care equipment in populated Asian countries such as China and Japan, we could see a majority of industry’s growth coming from these regions.

With demand for more precise and upgraded health care equipment rising, I believe these four companies with exposure to the medical device field could benefit: Johnson Johnson (NYSE:JNJ),nike tns ireland  Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG), Stryker Corporation (NYSE:SYK), and Sanomedics International Holdings, Inc. (OTCMKTS: OTCPK:SIMH).

Johnson JohnsonJohnson and Johnson , according to Trefis, has medical devices as the top contributor to its stock price, at about 61.5% or over $20 billion in revenues. nike air force 1 ireland While J has a diverse array of products to hedge against any fall in demand, the company’s devices focus on cardiovascular diseases, delivery, neurological, etc.

Turning to the fundamentals, Johnson Johnson has a market cap of $263.22 billion and is currently rated a “weak buy” from analysts. Overall, the stock’s valuation ratios are overvalued when looking at a price to sales of 3.69, price to book of 3.55, price to cash of 9, and price to free cash flow of 40. Earnings estimates come in at 24.6% gain this year, 7.7% next year, and 5.92% over the next five years. Margins are quite good: gross margin of 69%, operating margin of 26%, and profit margin of 19%. The company pays a annual dividend of 2.83%.

Overall, Johnson Johnson is the best bet for investors looking for a large cap, diversified healthcare company that has a good amount of exposure to the medical device air force 1 ireland  Shares are not cheap by any means, but growth appears stable and certainly is the more conservative option compared to the other stocks in this article.

Intuitive SurgicalIntuitive Surgical, Inc. is a developer of what is known as a “surgeon’s console”. Their da Vinci medical device brand assists surgeons during surgery and the company markets the device as a more precise device made to help limit mistakes. According to Trefis, the da Vinci system accounts for 19.6% of the stock price, behind instruments at 43.5% and services at 21.1% of the stock price.

Much like J Intuitive Surgical is no bargain. The company has a market cap of $17.08 billion and is rated a “weak buy” from analysts. Valuation ratios represent an overvalued state currently as seen with a price to sales of 7.54, price to book of 4.88, price to cash of 12.17, nike air force 1 ireland and price to free cash flow of 22. However, ISRG has no debt to speak of and 36.93 in cash per share. Earnings growth is expected to stumble this year at 4.7%, 13.44% next year, and 9.55% over the next five years. Margins are outstanding: gross margin of 70%, operating margin of 38%, and profit margin of almost 30%.

Overall, Intuitive Surgical has a much higher exposure to its medical devices in terms of earnings than J However, the company has no debt, awesome margins, and better earnings growth rates over the next several years. With a beta of 1.27, this stock can certainly be volatile during periods and extra hedging may be required for long term investors to avoid losses during downturns.

Stryker CorporationStryker Corporation is a medical device company with the largest exposure the field in terms of earnings, making it the most aggressive play out of the three companies. Stryker operates in three separate segments to which it provides medical devices for: Reconstructive, MedSurg, and Neurotechnology and Spine. The Reconstructive segment uses implants for parts such as knees and hips and provides trauma devices. MedSurg is the unit that provides the surgeon assistance devices that help provide precision during surgeries and Neurotech/Spine unit provides devices for highly invasive surgeries such as brain and spine.

Stryker is a $30.98 billion company that has the strongest “buy” rating of the group. However, like the other two companies, Stryker has overvalued valuation ratios: price to sales of 3.43, price to book of 3.42, price to cash of 7.78 and price to free cash flow of 24. Earnings growth is expected to decline 22% this year, rise 9.09% next year and 8.85% over the next five years. Margins are decent with a gross margin of 67%, operating margin of 15.6%, and profit margin of 11.2%. The company pays an annual dividend of 1.49%.

Overall, Stryker may be a larger company that Intuitive Surgical, but Intuitive offers other services and equipment other than medical devices. Stryker relies on the sales of their medical devices much more, as seen through this year’s earnings per share estimates: 4.7% for ISRG and 22% for SYK. Additionally, I do think Intuitive has slightly better fundamentals as well. That being said, Stryker does pay a dividend and has had a stronger performance compared to Intuitive over the last year.

Sanomedics International HoldingsSanomedics is a medical technology holding company that essentially buys businesses that produce “game changing products, services and ideas”. Management highlights that they use organic growth and acquisitions to help make the business grow. Last year, Sanomedics acquired a home medical equipment company called Prime Time Medical. The great thing about the deal was that Sanomedics paid $3 million for a company that was generating $5 million annually. Additionally, the company secured a $5 million line of credit from TCA Global Fund LLC to fund future acquisitions back in January 2014.

According to Wall St Cheat Sheet, the typical acquisition target were healthcare based, local brands that could generate national and international returns, contained “immediate impact” for clients in the form of lower costs, or other benefit, and is profitable. Wall St Cheat Sheet’s Matt Levy continued to say “As Sanomedics continues to execute its long term growth plan, the potential is there for the company to eventually generate revenues north of $100 million per year”.

The bottom line here is that Sanomedics is the most aggressive way to play the medical device growth. The company certainly has a mentor to follow in Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:IART), which operates under a very similar business model. To be certain, if the analysts are right and Sanomedics is able to continue purchasing profitable companies at a discount, we could see a jump in price action. However, this is certainly the riskiest way to play the space and would be recommended to high risk, high reward investors.

With big growth estimates projected from the medical device industry, there are a lot of ways to play it. I have offered you a conservative, moderate, moderate risky, and risky stock that would benefit the rise in demand in medical equipment. Safety minded investors with a conservative style should look at Johnson Johnson, moderate risk investors should look at Intuitive Surgical and Stryker, and high risk, high reward investors should investigate Sanomedics. No matter which risk tolerance you choose, all will benefit from the continued demand for better medical equipment.

Obviously, these larger cap names are going to have some overvalued metrics as we highlighted above. However, in an aged bull market, there is not a whole lot of sales going on and certainly hard to pick up high growth names such as these for a steep discount. As growth continues higher, these valuation ratios will reset along with the continued progress of increasing revenues, cash flow, debt, book value, etc. Ultimately, growth investors are not as concerned with “value” and are more likely to be the premiums for high growth and demand within an industry.

As technology advances and prices become more affordable, hospitals and medical companies will be more likely to upgrade their current systems or install a new system entirely. Additionally, we are just getting started in the medical device revolution, just imagine what one of these robots will be able to do in 10 20 years.

Ushibuka Bridge, Japan, by Renzo Piano Buiding Workshop I was talking with an architect friend about the troubled Columbia River Crossing project: the lack of an acceptable design, the lack of leadership, the millions and millions spent on the process without anything approaching a consensus. But this friend challenged my desire for a great bridge in an interesting way that has affected the way I see the process.

In an engineering sense, this friend argued, all that is needed is a flat bridge over the Columbia. A new Golden Gate esque suspension bridge? Not needed for this site. A tall statement making bridge? That just form without function, he argued.

In other words, then, are the transportation departments of Oregon and Washington correct in saying that the uninspiring, pancake flat Glen Jackson Bridge over Interstate 205 should be the template, the inspiration, the goal?

In my previous post about the CRC, I included pictures of striking bridges around the world by great architects, such as Sir Norman Foster Milau Viaduct in France and Santiago Calatrava Alamillo Bridge in huarache ireland   But these bridges, just like famous spans such as the Golden Gate Bridge, were tall in part because they needed to be. Golden Gate, for example, had to span Bay between two hillsides.

Nike Free Run Breathe 5.0 Womenss
Nike Free Run Breathe 5.0 Womenss

Or then there are dramatically tall bridges in Portland like the Fremont and the St. Johns. The former rises in the air in part because of the higher ground from which it emanates. The latter responds with its taller structural form to the mountains and hillside on the west side. In other words, these designs responded to the challenges of their sites. They may be postcard worthy beautiful, but they also were formal responses to functional challenges.

Ushibuka Bridge, Japan, by Renzo Piano Building Workshop the conditions for the CRC are different. Because of the quaint Pearson airfield in Vancouver, this bridge cannot be tall. But the riverbanks on each side are relatively flat ground, so that also means the topography may not call for a taller bridge.

What if, instead of clamoring for height and postcard quality, the design community instead accepted the need for a flat bridge but still insisted that this be more than a flat highway over the water? if we embrace the potential of the flat bridge?

In so doing, the design community would gain credibility with those accusing them of unrealistic expectations for a postcard. After all, it doesn take a “designista” (as developer Dennis Wilde coined hardcore Portland design proponents) to see that “postcard” and “gateway” are terms that don carry any real weight. They are expressions of what a design lover thinks should happen: the end result. But design isn about affixing beautiful sculptures to the landscape. The thing has to work well, and within its set of conditions.

If the design community abandons the perceived need for height and scale for the bridge, the social capital could then be applied to what is still desperately needed: a great designer.

But even to say “great designer” may be slightly misleading. This architect friend with whom I spoke argued that if Portland and Vancouver hire a famous architect with a relatively fixed style, even if it someone who has a very impressive sense of visual artistry, it may not be the right fit. What the CRC really needs, perhaps, is a designer as leader and editor.

The CRC process has so far been guided by giant groups stocked with representatives of different government and private sector concerns. That a necessary step in order to cull the concerns, needs and expertise of the many stakeholders in a new bridge. But until there is some kind of singular voice that does something with those opinions, all the ideas remain equal and no quality consensus is reached. It’s not that democracy is a mob, but the ideas are equal to each other until someone brings it all together together. This is where the designer as leader comes in: the person who takes all the opinions and brings them together in one design not a Homer Simpson car that is far less than the sum of its parts, but a greater unified whole. A complex design whose beauty is rooted in making the complex seem simple.

It not to say this designer couldn be a “starchitect” like Foster, Calatrava or Zaha Hadid. But given the complexities of the process and the many, many people involved, the CRC needs not just a designer sculptor but one who accepts that is no model yet for this bridge. “Right now designers have a preconceived conclusion as much as the engineers,” my friend (who chose to remain anonymous) argued. “That’s not how design works in my book.”

In other words, we need to find a way to unite those concerned with a great design, those concerned with moving traffic, and those concerned with environmental issues. We need a designer leading this ship who listens to the broad set of conditions and formulates that into a design one that embodies the needs of the site (such as physical flatness for the bridge) but also refuses to build something banal and ugly like the Glenn Jackson. As great architects like Renzo Piano have demonstrated, a flat bridge can still be gorgeous.

At this point, there won be a design competition for the CRC. There won be a new Golden Gate that rises over the Columbia. Even so, by installing a designer as the manager of this process, we can still build a bridge that represents the best of us in its design, a bridge that is as beautiful as it is huarache ireland  And it not to say a bridge keeping a low profile isn a good design. The one great thing about traveling over the Glenn Jackson Bridge on I 205 is the visceral, experiential sense one gets of the river. There are few obstructions to one view crossing the Jackson, leaving the Columbia itself, and the snow capped mountains in the distance, as the postcard.

Portland Aerial Tram, photo by Brian Libby it happens, when architect Sarah Graham and her firm, AGPS Architecture, were being considered for the Portland Aerial Tram commission, she said the same thing: “You don need a postcard. Mt. Hood is your postcard.” But Graham also fought tooth and nail to preserve the integrity of her tram design, to not let it just be utilitarian, banal and ugly. The tram doesn try to be a beautiful design, per se. But it is a beautiful design. The key? Whether it was Reed Kroloff leading the design competition, or Graham herself, we had the right people in place to do the job a job that called for design greatness, but also design leadership.

Fine Observation B , I believe we should think outside the box. We are in a special place , a place that values the outdoors and the environment.

A Park Roofed bridge is low rise AND gives us all a unique place to enjoy the Mighty Columbia.

and we gain a major unique green tourist attraction.

I believe you have made great points in your argument for a flat bridge.

I lived in Portland my whole life and have crossed the current bridge countless times.

I believe this design has great potential to be beautiful without being “cluttered”. I know that this bridge needs to do lots of things, not just be a bridge over the Columbia from Oregon to Washington for vehicle traffic but also for MAX line, bikers pedestrians. nike prestos ireland  The designer on this project should be exploring all possibilities for this design to communicate with its given landscape, needs, others opinions of course sustainability as well. A designer on a project of this scale should cover all of their bases before coming to any one conclusion.

Has any one thought about maybe a designer contest where designers, architects engineers can submit their designs to a jury per se. Like Mya lynn Vietnam memorial?

Nike Shoes For Women 2015 White
Nike Shoes For Women 2015 White

The jury wouldn even have to pick one design but then their are so many possibilities right in front of you. With those designs on hand taking ideas/concepts from the submissions and create one cohesive design that pleases all sides of the argument raised.

This bridge will not only become a landmark for Washington Oregon but a beautiful piece of art that not only includes functionality but represents this great NorthWest that we all inhabit.

That may be good and all, to design a beautiful flat bridge, but due to ODOT and FHA mandates for highway design we end up with a flat bridge AND a completely devastated Hayden Island, nike prestos ireland  a massive pile of spaghetti over Vancouver, and the non aesthetics of exhaust spewing gridlock moved (not relieved) closer into North Portland and the I 5/405 loop. Ask your architect friends how they feel about the REAL architectural splendor this project will bring outside of the bridge footprint. Look at the artist renderings again focusing on the approach interchanges and you understand that there is no architect on the planet who could make those ramps and passes better considering mandated designs for speed, curves, clearance, and slope.

Your architect friends are architects and are completely blind. nike prestos ireland  No disrespect, but they are only concerned with of the bridge, not the environmental, human habitat, sociological, financial, and political tragedy that is proposed. Everyone who pushes to have this bridge built should be mandated to live next to it and its interchanges, and see if they change their tune.

Twine from the same range has been used to illustrate wind swept clouds. The cardstock stickers make for sweet embellishments, with the title assembled from letters out of the word ‘Wanted’ on the sticker sheet. Danielle enjoyed the combination of earthy tones with bright primary colours in this range.

October Afternoon’s Sasparilla range is based on a cute Western theme, but is versatile enough in design to be used for all sorts of subjects!nike air presto ireland   Here Danielle has used the Stagecoach timber patterned paper as a background, adding a touch of gesso beneath October Afternoon’s Sprinklers spray inks.

Danielle took the opportunity to show a different style using the same Sasparilla range from October Afternoon. Here her background involves Sprinkler inks, gesso, paper napkins and white gel pen. In addition to the patterned papers, Danielle has used Sasparilla cardstock stickers and alphabet stickers to embellish the page, along with some loosely knotted twine and lace from the trims pack. Handwriting continues the arty, whimsical feel.

The soft feminine colours in the October Afternoon Farmhouse range were used perfectly by Kim to scrapbook a page about her weight loss journey. Yellow and Grey is a beautiful colour combination and the touches of pink just pop from the page.

Danielle Flanders has shared this gorgeous page with us featuring October Afternoon’s Sidewalks range.

Natt Smith brings us this fun page featuring a variety of October Afternoon products.

We love all the different bits and pieces of October Afternoon that Alex Gadgi has used on this layout October Afternoon Sidewalks, with a tiny little touch of Modern Homemaker and Road Map. So many bright and beautiful colours to catch your eye. Thanks for sharing your beautiful layout with us Alex.

Jill Sprott’s work is always a delight on the eye and this layout using October Afternoon is no exception. Jill has used Cakewalk and 9 to 5 lines (and a little bit of Sidewalks, Boarding Pass, and Thrift Shop) on this layout. Thanks for sharing your layout with us Jill.

Wilna Furstenburg has done an amazing job using soft papers from the Sidewalks range to create a great masculine page. Thanks for agreeing to share your great layout with us Wilna.

Finally, Vanessa Giurdanella has created this gorgeous card and gift box for a departing colleague. She has cleverly used a variety of October Afternoon products to achieve a cohesive and charming look!

October Afternoon have done it again with another beautiful range perfect for scrapping a large variety of topics. Kim has chosen to document some day trips with family using the Sidewalks air presto ireland The background was simply, but effectively, created by painting a frame around where the patterned paper block would be placed and the spraying it with white mist to soften the effect.

Jaime Warren has used the Sidewalks range from October Afternoon beautifully in this layout. I love Jaime’s style of random little clusters of patterned paper and embellishments.  I particularly like how she used the Little Flyers from October Afternoon to create the banners under the photos. Thanks for sharing this beautiful layout with us Jaime.

Finally, check out this cute layout from Marcy Penner on the October Afternoon design team. She has devised an inspired pie chart detailing how her family spent their time on their last holiday. You can see a tutorial for this layout here.

Suz Doyle wanted a double page spread full of photos of her Christmas Day and created this by printing them all on two A4 sheets. This meant that embellishment needed to be minimal, so she created a simple garland along the bottom of her photos. This gave her room for playing in a limited area, and so she added gorgeous chip stickers and embellies from the October Afternoon range, nike air presto ireland   Tim Holtz facets backed with the co ordinating papers and bits of trima nd lace, mostly from Websters. She added different coloured glitters to outline the embellishments which help them echo the spirit of christmas baubles or decorations.

Suz had some fun with the October Afternoon’s wonderful 5 range of patterned papers and embellishments in this layout. Her daughter often drags her and her camera off for ‘fashion’ photo shoots, and this 50’s inspired theme worked perfectly with the patterned air max thea ireland The golden tones of the late afternoon sun and the air of nostalgia in the photos is reflected perfectly in the designs of the papers, and Suz especially loved the rubber embellishments that gave the layout a bit of texture and dimension with minimum effort!

Kathie’s son, Jamie, started school at the beginning of this year. In this, her first “school page”, she has beautifully captured his excited, yet apprehensive expression as he looks to his father for reassurance on his first school day. Her departing vision of him settled with his class at the feet of his teacher is captured in the smaller photo and will be forever imprinted in her memory.

Kathie’s used the Shape Stickers from October Afternoon’s Report Card collection as the focal product on her page. She loves the old style imagery of these stickers;  perhaps because they are reminiscent of the illustrations in the school books she was reading when she first started school all those years ago. Kathie’s mixed in some of the Schoolhouse collection too, with a snippet of the Flashcards paper at the bottom of the page.

We thank Georgia Keays for the above two layouts as you can see she rocks the October Afternoon papers with style! We love the balance of patterned papers and embellishments being the perfect backdrop for her photos and the little details like the negative of the cloud diecut above the title in No Fanks. Thanks Georgia your style is superb.

We also spotted this gorgeous page by Treesa Young, Perth. Treesa wanted to create a summery layout to feature some photos of her son on his new slip n slide. October Afternoon’s Seaside papers were a perfect backdrop for the vivid colours in the photographs. This is such a happy, colourful page! Thanks for sharing it with us Treesa!

Finally, we saw this amazing layout while browsing the galleries and just had to share it with you. Belinda Venables, Perth, has used the Campfire line to make this incredible house.  From the fine penwork detail, to the opening and closing front door and the little critters Belinda has cut from the patterned paper, the entire project is simply irresistible.

At a recent birthday party Kathie’s son attended, he got the chance to see a whole load of farm animals, care of a travelling farm that arrived to entertain the children. nike air max thea ireland There were animals ranging from puppies right through to an owl and a baby crocodile. While Jamie wasn’t that keen on petting the baby crocodile (not too surprising really, and probably a healthy aversion to have!), Kathie did snap these shots of him cuddling the rabbit.

The October Afternoon Farm Fresh range is just perfect for layouts about farms, farm animals, farmer’s markets or even growing fresh produce in the backyard. The patterned papers include red gingham, yellow polka dots and old text from a farmyard book. The coordinating wild cards and stickers contain fun farm related images like the sheep and pig that you can see in the scene at the top of the layout. For the title, Kathie’s used the versatile Mini Market Alpha Stickers from the Thrift Shop range.

October Afternoon is such a lovely range to work with. Sue kept her page relatively simple and utilised the Cherry Hill Die cuts to create her cluster of embellishments to compliment the cute photos of her daughter Lily, playing at the beach. Sue sanded around the edges of the die cuts and also shaped and layered them to add interest. A gorgeous Prima flower and butterfly completed the page.

We spotted this layout from Tanya Tahir when it was featured on the October Afternoon Facebook page. It’s just adorable! Tanya’s used the little boy flying a kite, and his dog, which are from the sticker sheet in the Fly a Kite range. The addition of a cute little pennant banner makes for a totally sweet boys page.

Iris has such a fun style of scrapbooking and uses the October Afternoon Cherry Hill products so well. I love her use of the bird die cuts to compliment her title. Thanks so much Iris for allowing us to share your pages.

An article in The Advertiser newspaper recently reported that young women are flocking to homespun crafts like sewing, cooking, knitting, gardening and even raising chooks in the family back yard. There is a trend towards the hand made, towards home grown, towards repurposing the old.

Kathie’s noticed this homespun trend in the scrapbooking industry too. Several manufacturers have lines that reflect the focus towards home grown, farm fresh, nike air max thea ireland handmade, thrift shopping and wholesome cooking. Browsing through the galleries, it would seem that scrappers are welcoming the theme with open arms.

Soft floral papers and fabrics are being pleated and ruffled onto layouts, old coupons peek out from behind vintage toned photographs, images from old sewing pattern envelopes are being paired with machine stitching, pennant banners drift across the page, and pretty checks and ginghams abound.

In this first layout, Kathie’s used Jenni Bowlin’s Homespun range. The warm vivid colours of line really do say “homespun” in and of themselves. Then, to accentuate the homespun feel even further, Kathie’s added old coupons and newsprint, chipboard buttons (reminiscent of old bottle tops), fresh gingham, ruffled fabric trim, a little pennant banner and loads of machine stitching.

Tantrums. Screaming. Hitting. Oh yes, we are there. Miss E. is full on asserting herself. She knows what she does and doesn want and is starting to figure out that she is not in charge. What to do? She not quite 18 months old.

Right now, I been saying in a firm voice and walking away from her. My other method is to pick her up and give us a change of scenery. I can usually get her giggling and we forget about what was happening before. But those don always work and I think we close to implementing timeouts.

Is she old enough for that? A few experts says yes, including the BabyCenter Editorial Team. Of course, timeouts are much more effective with an older child.

Our family uses the 123 magic school of thought for the majority of our discipline. It focuses on the whole no talking, no emotion part of discipline (which I am HORRIBLE at but getting much better), as well as focusing on positive reinforcement for good behavior. However, that doesn really start to work until around 2 (but you can use it up through the preteen years which is great).

Timeouts for us consist of one minute per age in an inset of our house. So for my daughter, this would mean I put her here for one minute as a method of redirection and removing her from the situation. As I typing this, I realizing that we might not be ready for this. Is she really going to sit somewhere for one minute? And even with doing the Super Nanny by walking her back there over and over, is she old enough to comprehend it at all? I thinking no.

How do you discipline your toddlers? It such a complex stage of development as they are figuring out so much and their comprehension for how their actions affect others is close to nil. You don want to punish them as much as you want them to learn how to effectively deal with their emotions.

Of course the real key is being consistent in whatever you decide.

For some other thoughts, check out these articles for BabyCenter advice on making timeouts work for 12 24 month old toddlers and the best way to discipline a toddler.

My LO is 16 months. We been doing time outs since 13 months. 1 minute. We use it for the absolute worst offenses. Total, I think he had a maximum of 5 time outs in 3 months. If the behavior is dangerous or hurts others then he gets a TO. For us, TO stop the behavior immediately and we haven seen the behavior come up again.

Here is our method: We see him doing the action. We sternly tell him no, no. No hitting/biting/climbing/etc. and we put him in his room. We set the stove timer (it dings) for 1 minute. After the allotted time we go and get him. I look him square in the eyes and say calmly, got a time out because you __________. Do not ________. Now its all done. Can you say you sorry by giving Mommy/Daddy a hug? He always wants a hug.

My biggest piece of advice is to let it go and don bring it up again after this step. Trust me, he/she gets it and they don need to be told several times.

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment. We don have anywhere else to do a TO, so its his bedroom. If it were possible, I do a TO some where that isn his space.

DS is 18 months. so far, when he does something i forbid (like trying to touch the oven), I remove him from the situation, while saying does mommy say about touching the oven? and he always answers no no, b/c so far, his offenses are those things he KNOWS not to do. it has been working so far as in, he won return to that behavior during that time. I know he understands b/c when its something very dangerous (when i might raise my voice a bit) he immediately tries to hug me was my first clue that he knew he was doing something that upset me. We tried TOs a bit, but got nowhere, redirection and reinforcing that we say to such and such behavior has been working better.

I don think TO at this age needs to be in a specific area or for a specific amount of time at this age. For example, when my LO was pulling our cat tail repeatedly and saying didn work, I tried saying and then picking him up and sitting him on the floor. He was only about 2 feet away from me, and where the incident occured. Anyways, he cried and cried, but never moved from the spot. After a few moments, he stopped crying and came back to the cat. He pulled the tail I repeated the After 3 times in a row, he got it. It been a month and he never pulled her tail again!

My 21 month old responds incredibly well to a modified time out. If he acts up after a warning, he gets picked up and put in his room (there are no toys there). He doesn have to stay still or anything, and he free to walk out of the room. Of course, he then comes and finds me. If he still in tantrum mode, he gets put directly back. Again and again until he can control himself.

The first few times we had to carry him back several times, but now he already starts to correct his behavior at the threat of going to his room. And if he goes, once is enough. It a good compromise that works well in our house now. As he grows, we will do real time outs, but I with you that he isn going to understand that just yet.

Hmmm well, we have 4 kids who have gone through this stage. I have used timeouts with, honestly, little success it doesn really help them to achieve self control, nike stefan janoski ireland and from my research on child development, simply adds more stress to an already stressful situation. There is actually some evidence that punishing kids for displaying emotion actually slows the development of empathy, and actually prolongs the tantruming phase.

Instead, we have decided to respond with empathy, as well as using preventative measures.

Most tantrums happen because the child is actually upset about something that he/she can have or that parents just don get (I love the wish I had milk at snacktime instead of juice) tantrums. They occur, typically when the child has little to no communication skills (they can understand an explanation), or when a child is tired or hungry.

With this in mind, we try and prevent tantrums by watching for hunger cues, and tiredness cues and providing time for sleep and snacks. nike stefan janoski ireland When they do happen, we do not in but instead, wait until a point when the child is not raging, but is more sad upset (tantrums typically cycle between raging and sobbing)and then we comfort the child for their emotional distress frankly, if my car broke down just as I was leaving the house to go to a very important appointment, and my hair wasn working and I got upset about it, I would want my husband to sympathize with my plight not put me on time out or get mad at me and add more to an already severely frustrating incident.

So, with our last (who is 21 months, and full into the tantruming stage), and he, say, is mad because we won let him play with the water dispenser on the fridge and he starts to rage, and lays down on the floor and screams blue murder, I wait for a few moments until I hear him sob, then I gesture to pick him up, and usually, talk to him giving him words it is frustrating that you can have what you want, mommy gets frustrated, too sometimes If it is about him wanting a toy he can have, I say something similar and do the same, comforting him and moving him away from the object of desire I hold him and he usually just sobs in my arms. I comfort him. When he is done, I take him away from the fridge, and engage him in something else.

In a store or out of the house, I do the same. nike stefan janoski ireland So far, tantrums last maybe a few minutes, and the sobbing a few minutes more, then I have a calm toddler. If tantrums are clustering, I assume he is tired, or hungry and do my best to deal with those issues. If we are out, I may hurry up my shopping. I wish I had done this more with my others it works a lot better.

MY 19 month old knows where time out is. She will walk over to the corner and put her head on the wall mimicing her older sisters. She doesn stay in time air huarache ireland Recently we been dealing with the assertion of her will. She is defiant about everything. In those cases we do her to time out and will usually will send her back once. It more a routine and a practice in how we do discipline in our house instead of actually getting her to stay there.

I wish the waiting it out worked here for tantrums. It doesn she is tenacious. If I take a toy from her to get in the car to go somewhere she will have a tantrum for 15 plus minutes. She usually ends up having to go to her room.

I am with Samantha on this air huarache ireland My son is now 28 months old and we never done a timeout. He has gone through a hitting phase and a biting phase and the don want to put my clothes on right now phase (ongoing). He is (I think) a very well behaved two and half year old at this point.

When he was in the biting phase, we would just say to him, biting. Biting hurts. And not make a big deal of it at all. There has always been a lot of communication from our end as parents as my son is pretty behind on his verbal skills. We explain everything in easy sentences.

Tantrums have been few and far between. When they happen, we understand he is letting out a bunch of bottled up emotions frustration, sadness, anger and he needs emotional support more than ever. We stay with him when he upset and hold him when he is air huarache ireland This usually results in him bursting into tears in our arms and us comforting him. Then it the explanation are so sad that we have to leave the sandbox. You were having a lot of fun playing with your trucks. But now it time to go home for dinner. We come to the park again tomorrow. (or whenever we tell him the truth). It calms him down pretty quickly when we let him know that we understand why he is upset.
